Business owners and HR professionals understand the importance of promoting welfare and mental health at the workplace. But, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a brand new epidemic of the health issue ‘’burnout’’ has emerged. The WHO defines burnout as a condition of emotional, physical, аnd mental exhaustion that can negatively affect several variables, such as productivity and absenteeism. Furthermore, multiple studies predict that by 2030, burnout will be the main cause of functional impairment worldwide.
Over 77% of respondents to a Deloitte survey on workplace exhaustion indicated that they have experienced burnout in their current position. Furthermore, fatigue has increased as a result of remote employment and the merging of home and work lives.
Because of the unique circumstances of each business, several methods exist for reducing the likelihood of employee burnout. As a part of their broader plan to combat the burnout pandemic, some companies may offer mental health tools for their workers, such as therapists or counselors, and even establish mental health days. Setting achievable goals is another strategy for achieving a better work-life balance.
Creating a positive work environment that prioritizes mental health and prevents fatigue should be a part of the strategy of every HR department. Employees should feel comfortable discussing their behaviors with managers and HR teams, identifying potential risks and stressors, and offering assistance to those who may be struggling.
In conclusion, burnout should be taken seriously and recognized as an issue of public concern. By prioritizing self-care and promoting health in the workplace, businesses can implement strategies to mitigate the risk. Companies and their employees can collaborate to combat the fatigue epidemic and improve overall health.
